A4 PRINTING GUIDE
Print a large poster on multiple A4 pages
A home printer can make a wall-size poster by printing one image as a set of A4 tiles. The important details are the printable margin, the overlap between tiles, and the scale used in the printer dialog.

THE SHORT VERSION
Use A4 tiles, then join them at the printed size
Choose A4 in the maker, set the number of sheets wide, leave enough safe margin for your printer, and add overlap if you want a visible registration area. Export the tiled PDF and print each page at Actual Size or 100%. Do not use Fit to Page: even a small change in scale can make neighboring tiles drift apart.
Quick start: A4 paper is 210 × 297 mm. An 8 mm safe margin and 10 mm overlap are sensible starting values, but the best margin depends on your printer. Use the calibration sheet before a large run if alignment matters.
STEP BY STEP
How to print the poster
- Prepare a clear source image. A higher-resolution image gives you more detail when the final poster is viewed close up. JPG, PNG, and WebP are supported.
- Select A4 and the orientation. Match the tool setting to the paper loaded in your printer.
- Choose the grid, margin, and overlap. “Sheets wide” controls final width. Safe margin keeps artwork away from the unprintable edge. Overlap repeats a strip of artwork on adjacent pages for alignment.
- Download the tiled PDF. The export includes an assembly page, numbered coordinates, trim marks, and an instruction line for overlap.
- Print every page at Actual Size or 100%. Choose A4 and turn off Fit, Shrink, Expand, or similar automatic scaling. Use the same setting for every page.
- Trim and assemble. Follow page coordinates, trim the indicated margins, keep repeated artwork where overlap is enabled, and tape joins from the back.
CALIBRATION
Check scale before printing all the pages
Printer drivers and PDF viewers can apply their own scaling. The maker includes a calibration sheet with a marked 100 mm line. Print it at Actual Size or 100%, measure the line, and enter the measured value in the tool. If it is shorter or longer than 100 mm, the export can compensate for that measured scale.
Calibration helps detect scale error; it cannot make every printer use the same edge-to-edge area. If your printer clips the edge, increase the safe margin and keep the paper size consistent.
FAQ
A4 poster printing questions
How many A4 pages do I need?
The number depends on image shape, sheets-wide setting, safe margin, overlap, and orientation. The tool calculates rows and total pages after you choose an image.
Should I use overlap or no overlap?
Overlap is useful when repeated artwork makes alignment easier. With no overlap, neighboring image edges meet directly.
Can every printer print the same A4 area?
No. Printers have different unprintable edge margins and driver behavior. Use a safe margin, select the correct paper size, and calibrate when exact scale matters.
Can I print on US Letter instead?
Yes. The home tool also includes US Letter. Select Letter in the tool and load the matching paper size.
